10K Challenge: It's easier than you think!

Third Challenge - Log your steps to count how many 10Ks you can complete this year.

We hope you’ve taken the first step and committed to walking 10 minutes, 10 times per week, with 10 friends. Now that you’re on the path to get moving, it’s time to track to your success and dig deeper.

    10K Tracker.

    Your third challenge is to count the number of steps that add up to a 10K. See how many 10Ks you can complete this year. The 10K Tracker will help you keep track.

  • You can do it!

    Take the challenge a step further. Why not set a goal to walk a real 10K? Build your stamina by enrolling in a 5K fun run in your area, walking with your spouse or family after dinner, or taking the stairs rather than the elevator.

  •  

    Success through other activities.

    Walking is not the only way to achieve this goal. Count other activities you enjoy such as basketball, bicycling or gardening to accumulate "miles" to meet your marks. The conversion chart can help you.

  • Encouragement & positivity.

    Recognize that you are setting high goals for yourself. Find a friend, preferably one in the walking club you may have started or joined, or ask a spouse to cheer you on. A positive attitude and "cheerleaders" will help you persevere. Give yourself credit for even the smallest accomplishments, such as walking that extra flight of stairs, or choosing to walk up a hill rather than an easier short cut.

  • Spiritual exercises.

    Use your exercise time to not only build strength physically, but also spiritually.

    Download sermon podcasts, chapters of the bible or worship music. Listen intently as you walk or use the time to pray and connect with the Lord.

 


First Challenge — Ready? Set? Goal!
Setting goals is an important first step toward success. Your challenge is to create an action plan to achieve your 10 wellness goals for 2010. If you haven’t created wellness goals yet, there’s still time. Find out more about the first challenge!

Second Challenge — Get moving.
If you’re getting little or no physical activity now, it’s time to take that first step. Literally.
