Your family’s security can’t wait

Graduation.  The day you’ve been waiting for. You’re finally ready to get out there and begin your ministry. Your mind is racing with questions about where you’ll serve and how God will use you.

Let’s face it, life and health coverage is probably not the foremost thing on your mind. You’re young and healthy. Your family is healthy. You have plenty of time to worry about life and health coverage — later.

Or do you?

Consider Jim’s story.
Jim had recently graduated from seminary and had already been interviewing with prospective churches. He was thrilled when he was offered a staff position at a small church in his hometown.

When Jim started to work in July, he thought about looking into medical coverage through GuideStone’s Personal Plans, but since his salary was small, he decided to wait. Neither Jim, his wife Sue, nor their daughter Emily had any health problems. Health insurance could wait until he was earning more money.

Unfortunately, later that fall, Emily was diagnosed with leukemia. Emily’s medical bills quickly began piling up. Although their church did what they could to help, they weren’t able to take care of everything. At a time when Jim and Sue should have been focusing only on Emily, they had the additional burden of worrying about how the bills would be paid.

Today, Emily’s leukemia is in remission, and her prognosis is great. But her ordeal was an eye-opener for Jim. He was now ready to apply for medical coverage through the Personal Plans, but he had missed his opportunity to enroll without evidence of good health.

While Jim and Sue could pass underwriting, Emily couldn’t because of her prior medical condition. Had Jim applied for coverage when he first began employment, a special provision for graduating seminary students would have allowed him and his dependents to enroll in a medical plan without providing evidence of good health. And even with Emily’s health history, they could have continued their coverage throughout Jim’s Southern Baptist ministry.

Don’t take chances when it comes to the security of you and your family. Protect your family with GuideStone’s life and health plans and begin a relationship that can stretch across the years of your service to the Lord, your places of service and your various ministries.

Begin your future right by protecting your family’s future.
Graduation is a busy and exciting time. Health coverage may be the last thing on your mind. You may be thinking, “I can’t afford it now” or “I’ll look into it later.” But later may be too late. As in Jim’s story, one illness or injury can create a financial burden on you and your family.

You and your family may be eligible to enroll in a GuideStone PPO medical plan without underwriting if you apply for coverage within 31 days of the date your full-time SBC employment begins. Your SBC employment must begin within 12 months of your seminary or Bible school graduation or attendance. (You must not have previously enrolled in a medical plan or been declined for medical coverage in the Personal Plans.)

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
